Year 8 students design sustainable communities for the future

Ms Anderson writes: “Today, we welcomed three visitors to view Year 8’s designs for a Sustainable Communities project. Beatriz Mayoral (Sentinus), Patrice McCrory and Heidi Simmons (Arbour Housing) were very impressed by the entries. Indeed, they were so impressed that, instead of picking an overall winner from the five classes, they commended the best parts from each settlement:

  • 8B’s inclusion of a food bank

  • 8C’s building design

  • 8D’s 3D printed hydrogen powered tram

  • 8M plan for crop rotation on a farm

  • And 8S’s model of a hydroelectric dam.

The students had a lot of fun making the settlements and learning about sustainable communities. We may have inspired some careers in town planning
