Year 13 Peer Mentors take up their roles

Mrs Harrison, leader of the Peer Mentor Programme, writes: “A new cohort of eighteen Year 13 peer mentorshave completed the training and have been paired with their form classes. They  are a great group of students who are now actively visiting  registration and some lessons to support our younger students.  Feedback from staff so far has been very positive.

Their role is to provide support for our younger students, both individually and as a group, helping them settle in, make progress and to achieve their full potential at Shimna.  Year 13 students are offered the opportunity to complete training to ensure that they have the skills necessary to support young people who might be daunted by some of the obstacles they face. The programme encourages Sixth Form students to play a responsible role in the school community and ensures students are secure in the knowledge that there are always older students  available and willing to help them.”
