Year 10 English students express the right to write

Ms McCurdy writes: “Year 10 students enjoyed an online creative workout with Marnie Kennedy and Emma Gibb of ‘Fighting Words’, a Belfast-based charity providing creative writing opportunities for schools, children and young people.

During the workshop, we explored the essential elements of a story: creating original characters, setting and realistic dialogue and (despite technical glitches) came up with ideas for chapter 1 of our very first novel entitled, ‘The Murder of the Smith Family’ (Though ‘Leo and his Monstrous Thoughts’ was a close runner up for the title).

You can read the first draft of Chapter 1 here: http://www.fightingwords.co.uk/stories/murder-smith-family

Thanks for Fighting Words for giving us ‘the write to right’ (or the right to write).”
