U14 Boys Gaelic team blitz their way to semi-finals

Mr McCormick wites: “Well done to our U14 Gaelic footballers who played three games at the Brother Sharkey blitz in Belfast this morning.

In the first game the boys took on St Colm's, Twinbrook. They raced into an early lead with Dara, Max E, Fionn and Gerald all giving the St Colm's defence a torrid time. The half and full back lines stood firm against any St Colm's attacks and they ground down the opposition team to win 1-10 to 0-1.

In their second game against All Saints College, the midfield duo of Fahlin and Oran worked tirelessly up and down the pitch to great effect. The depleted All saints team could not match the Shimna running but perhaps the score was harsh on All Saints who grew more into the game as time went on. The match finished 4-10 to 0-0 to Shimna. Special mention to Ronan G who scored a great goal at the end of this match.

In the final group game, the boys took on a strong St Joseph's side with height on their side. In this game the half back line of Jack, Darragh and James were immense and won the ball time and time again. Special mention for our full back Elliot who marshalled his forward exceptionally well and kept him very quiet. The match ebbed and flowed, but in the end the boys from Newcastle stood firm and won by 4-4 to 3-0. The match might have been closer but for a stunning save in the last two minutes from the Shimna keeper Brady.

With three wins from three the boys topped their group and go straight into a semi-final match next month. With this in mind, junior Gaelic training resumes on Wednesday.”
