Breaking news from Mr Scott
“Earlier today, our Gold Award group completed their final expedition in the beautiful wilds of Donegal.
On Day 1 the group set off in the sunshine from the entrance in Ards Forest and followed an initial coastal route via Ards Friary to their camp on the northern flank of Muckish Mountain.
On Day 2, following a wet night and a thunder storm they travelled over a variety of terrain to their remote campsite on the shore of Altan Lough, in the shadows of Errigal Mountain.
Day 3 is traditionally the most challenging day and it didn't disappoint with the group crossing the wild Derryveagh Mountains - a physical, mental and navigational challenge. After an initial setback (followed by a relocation), they made their way through the mountains with flying colours to camp 3.
On Day 4 they crossed the Bullaba River and navigated their way through a rather damp but epic valley into Glenveagh National Park, passing through Glenveagh Castle on route to the finish line.
They covered an approx. total of 72km over the 4 days have proved to be an extremely close knit, organised, fit and determined group who have been a pleasure to supervise and assess over these 4 days. Congratulations to all the team members - Erin Elliott, Mia Pobloth, Chris Barbour, Rory Kerr and Ben Sanderson.
On Sunday evening they enjoyed a well-earned little bit of luxury in Letterkenny, complete with swimming pool and celebratory meal!”
A big thanks to Mr Scott, Mr Mayers and Ms Quinn for their sterling support
