Mr Scott, leader of our Duke of Edinburgh / President’s Award Scheme writes:
“Our Gold Award group, comprising Chris Barbour, Erin Elliott, Rory Kerr, Mia Pobloth and Ben Sanderson, welcomed in April by embarking on their practice expedition. From their departure point on the Benagh Road at Lisnacree Post Office, our five explorers covered approximately 55km over the course of 3 days, taking in many local sights such as Yellow Water, Pigeon Rock Mountain, Pollaphuca, Lough Shannagh and Silent Valley (to name but a few) before completing their expedition at Carrick Lit
tle on the Sunday afternoon.
Conditions over the first day and a half were particularly difficult but the group pulled together to show great resilience and with a few welcomed boosts and games along the way they even managed to finish with a smile on their face! I think Ben, Chris and Rory were particularly glad to see the finish line. Mia and Erin on the other hand looked like they could have done it all over again!
They now look forward to their adventure in Donegal, where they will complete their 4 day final expedition from Ards Forest, through the Derryveagh Mountains to Glenveagh National Park. They will smash it!”
