Shimna represented at prestigious GNI Awards 2023

Representatives from Shimna Integrated College enjoyed a glamour filled awards evening last weekend as a finalist in the 'Inclusive Education' category at the GNI Awards. This accolade acknowledges the school's integrated ethos and the ongoing work supporting and celebrating LGBTQ+ identities within the school.

Shirley McMillan, head of GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) at Shimna says, "it was a positive evening and really good for the students to see the work towards inclusion which is happening across NI."

"Shimna's GSA has been running for 13 years and we were the first school in the country to have an LGBTQ+ student group. Our young people are as enthusiastic as ever about promoting integration through celebrating our school's LGBTQ+ community."

GNI magazine is a local LGBT publication, engaging with more than 70,000 people in a bi-monthly magazine. The GNI Mag Awards are designed to celebrate and recognise businesses and individuals who go over and above for the LGBTQ community.
