Shimna boys narrowly edged out in Gaelic final

Our U18 Boys fell just short in this afternoon’s Ulster Schools Final, losing 1.11 - 2.7 to Edmund Rice College at the Ballymacnab GAA Club. With a point in it at half time, ERC scored quick points in the second half and there was a danger of the game running away from us.

However, the Shimna team rallied impressively after the break, with an opportunist goal from Joe Hale and an absolute belter from Shea McLaughlin. Despite the fact we had a smaller and younger squad, our boys played some tremendous football in the closing stages.

Credit to Mr Dagen and Mr Keown for coaching the team to the final and the brink of victory. In the closing ceremony, Shimna was commended for reaching our first Ulster final; with a young and talented team, we will come again.

Well done to the players for their progress in the competition and their valiant efforts on the day. Chris Barbour, man of the match, led by example.
