Livestock & Meat Commission serves up key messages about food industry

In recent weeks, Key Stage 3 students had the opportunity through their HE lessons to learn about the importance of nutrition, food safety and quality assurance through an engaging cookery demonstration led by the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC).

As part of its educational outreach, LMC demonstrator Patricia McClean visited the school to deliver key messages about the nutritional value of Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured (NIFQA) beef and lamb. She also emphasized essential topics such as food safety, hygiene, provenance and cooking methods, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the journey from farm to fork.

During the session, Patricia prepared a delicious sticky beef chilli rice dish, showcasing how NIFQA beef and lamb can be incorporated into tasty and nutritious meals. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, gaining valuable insight into making informed food choices while also picking up practical cookery skills.

“It was fantastic to see the students so engaged in learning about food provenance and nutrition. The demonstration was both educational and enjoyable,” said Ms Forsythe.
