Girls netball teams make winning start in NI Shield

Our girls netball teams have made an excellent start to their Northern Ireland Shield campaign last week.

The intermediate girls team won their first round Shield match against Foyle College 22-8. Attacking play from centre Katelynn McClelland and wing attack Piera Corrigan, who fed the ball into shooters Helen Barbour and Hope Sherlock, resulted in a high-scoring victory. Defenders Emily Allister, Evie Gorman and Rachel Hodge worked hard to pressurise the Foyle Attack. This was followed up by another great win, 16-11, in a closely contested match against Cookstown High School. Great play from captain Emily Allister, along with wing attack Lauren Hamilton, again supplied the shooters Hope Sherlock and Lucy McGrady with plenty of opportunities. Strong defence from Rachel Hodge and Evie Gorman ensured that Cookstown's attack was minimised. Overall, a fantastic team performance from all the players.

Meanwhile, the minor girls team enjoyed a resounding 18-6 victory over Ballymena Academy in the first round of the Minor Girls Shield. The attacking play of Parisa Susay-Quinn, Sophie Mayers and shooters, Hope Sherlock and Lucy Mc Grady, were instrumental in this win. The defence of Eve McNamara and Lucy Shiells were also very important. Earlier in the week, they also defeated Killicomaine JHS 17-14 in the NI Minor B League.
